Diego Armando Maradona born on 30 Oct 1960 is widely regarded as the greatest football player to have ever played the game. He was short at 5’5”, but what he lacked in height, he more than made up for it with his skill.

Diego Maradona started playing football at the age of 8 and from there he never looked back. He made his international debut in 1977, just a year after he first played for his senior club side in 1976.

He continued to play in Argentina till 1982 when he was transferred to FC Barcelona for what was then the highest fee ever of five million pounds. He had a difficult couple of years at Barcelona before he moved to what would be his home for most of his remaining playing career.

Everyone loved him at Napoli and everyone revered and respected him at the club. During this period, he took Argentina to their second world cup win almost single-handedly. He scored 5 goals in the tournament and provided two vital assists in the final.

Many experts rank his performance superior to Pele who won three world cups with Brazil. He played in Italy in 1990 and led his team to the final, only to lose to Germany on a controversial penalty.

During his stay at Napoli, his drug addiction worsened and finally, he had to leave in disgrace in 1992. He made a comeback to play in the U.S.A in 1994. Wada’s drug test again found him the offender and he was banned from playing.
