There are a total of eight players who are divided into two groups with four players each and play round-robin matches against the other players in the second group.
Those players with the best record from both the groups advance to the semi-finals with the winners, playing in the final against each other to determine the champion. From 2011 to 2014 these tournament has been held in Sao Paulo.
In 2011- 2012, the tournament was held on the Indoor hard surface at Ginasio do Ibirapuera. In the year 2013, the ATP Challenger Tour Finals was held on the Outdoor Clay Court, and in 2014 it was again held on the Indoor clay at the Esporte Clube Pinheiros.
In the finale, Schwartzman played against Brazilian wild card entry Guilherme Clezar winning the two straight sets 7-5, 6-4. During the match Schwartzman outsmarted Clezar winning the match in 73 minutes. Schwartzman, who is at present the 77 in World ranking earned 110 ATP ranking points and also won prize money of US-$ 84,900.
He is the only second Argentine after Guido Pella to win the final ATP Challenger Tour finals. Schwartzman can rightly be said as the deserving player of this award-winning title in 2014 and winning the most number of matches with a total of 48 throughout the year.
Filippo Volandri of Italy won the finale of the ATP Challenger Tour in the year 2013 over Alejandro Gonzalez in three rounds with 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Volandri won the match totally in just 52 minutes and won his 12th trophy on the Challenger trophy. Volandri has become the ninth active player to win the award.
The Italian who also held No 25th spot once won $84,900 with the title and adds 110 points taking him inside the Top 70 of the Emirates ATP Rankings for the first time after April last year. Runner up Gonzalez also received $46,200 for his run to the final and achieved the status of sixth Colombian-born player to enter in the Top 100 earlier in the week.
Argentina player Guido Pella defeated Adrian Ungur, the sixth-seeded player winning three sets with 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-6(4). Pella has entered the Top 100 for the first time in the South African Airway ATP Rankings for the first time.
At present Pella is 124th seeded and enhanced 4-0 record in ATP challenger Tour finals in 2012 adding one more to his winning streak including in Salinas, Manta, and Campinas
German player Cedrik-Marcel Stebe won the match against Dudi Sela of Israel in 2011 winning two straight sets with 6-2, 6-4. Stebe is a very versatile player and has other talents like he is a pianist, drummer, golfer, and also a footballer. Stebe became the newest shining star and one of the fastest achievers in ATP World Tour in 2011.
