Sometimes, the sequences of an escape movie can be tedious and lengthy but at the same time, it creates great excitement and suspense in the viewers.

Following is merely a small list of the best Hollywood escape movies, whereas there is an excellent collection of Hollywood movies based on escape.

●       The Great Escape (1963)

The Great Escape ranks on the top among the list of best Hollywood escape movies. Made under the direction of John Sturges, this 1963’s film presents a true tale of British, American, and Canadian hostages who escape from a supposedly hidden Nazi jail camp during the Second World War. 

 The Great Escape is the best dramatization of the sequences that appeared during the escape, along with the excellent performances by Steve McQueen, James Garner, and Richard Attenborough.

●       Escape from Alcatraz (1979)

The release of 1979, Escape from Alcatraz, directed by Don Siegel is a superb movie of its time. The film presents a beautiful dramatization of a true story based on the one possibly thriving escape from Alcatraz.  Clint EastwoodFred WardPatrick McGoohan, and Danny Glover made the film extraordinary with their outstanding and real performances.

●       Escape to Victory (1981)

Escape to Victory stands among the list of best escape movies of Hollywood. This 117 minutes movie circles around some allied captives of battle who are locked up in a German prison camp during the Second World War. 

Escape to Victory was directed by John Huston who beautifully dramatized the escape and the real performance of Michael Caine, Sylvester Stallone, Max von Sydow, and Daniel Massey made the film get real attention.

●       The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Directed by Frank Darabont and starring Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, and Bob Gunton,  The Shawshank Redemption is an excellent film that shows how two captives escape from the prison where they were locked up for many years. The movie blends a real adventure, drama, and thrill which let you fasten at your seat till the movie ends.

●       Von Ryan’s Express (1965)

Von Ryan’s Express is an escapade of some allied prisoners at the time of the Second World War. How they hijack a freight train to manage a daring mass escape is the main attraction of the movie. Starring Frank Sinatra and Trevor Howard, the movie is directed by Mark Robson. This was the most successful movie of the time and therefore keeps a great value among the list of best Hollywood’s escape movies.

●       Escape from Fort Bravo (1953)

Starring William HoldenEleanor Parker, and John Forsythe Escape from Fort Bravo were set during American Civil War. Under the direction of John Sturges, the movie circles around a cruel Union captain who falls in love with a visiting woman. How some of the prisoners take the advantage of the situation and try to escape is all one has to watch in Escape from Fort Bravo.

●       The Escapist (2008)

The Escapist is a new and exciting story based on an escape. This 2008’s film is made under the direction of Rupert Wyatt who fantastically occupies all his stars including Joseph Fiennes, Liam Cunningham, Seu Jorge, and Dominic Cooper in such a great action-packed adventure.
