Mary Nell Steenburgen is a well-known American actress, singer and songwriter known for her academy award winning roles in “Melvin and Howard”.

She was born on 8th February, 1953 in Arkansas, United States of America. Now, 67 years of age, Mary Steenburgen has appeared in more than 65 movies and TV series.

Career Highlights

Mary Steenburgen started her acting career from stage in 1970s, when she moved to New York. In 1978, she earned her debut role in a movie titled “Goin’ South”, followed by another major role in “Time After Time”, released in 1979.

In 1980, she appeared in “Melvin and Howard”, for which she earned her first ever Academy Award. After such an ideal start to her career she got more roles in movies including “Back to the Future Part-III”, “What’s eating Gilber Grape”, “Nixon”, “Elf” and many others.

She also appeared in many TV series including “The Gift”, “Gulliver’s Travels”, “Ink”, “Capital City” and “Reinventing the Wheelers”. Mary Steenburgen earned the prestigious Academy Award as well as a Golden Globe Award in the category for best supporting actress in the third movie of her career titled “Melvin and Howard”.

Steenburgen also won Kansas City Film Critics Circle Award, Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award, National Society of Film Critics Award and New York Film Critics Circle Award for the same movie. In 1979, she won Saturn Award for best actress for her performance in “Time After Time”.

In addition to these awards, she was nominated for a number of awards for various movies. Mary Steenburgen is also the recipient of the 2,395th star on the celebrated Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2009, which holds testimony to her status as an actress.
