Born on the 27th of September, 1953, Claudio Gentile was a former football defender as well as an Italian coach of the 1970s and 1980s.

He was born in a Sicilian family and has played for Italy in two football World Cup tournaments which are inclusive of the winning Italian team in the final match of the 1982 World Cup.

Moreover, his club career mainly comprises of a period he spent with Juventus who made him appear in 300 leagues in which Claudio Gentile won six national-level titles and two European trophies.

His international career includes appearances on 71 occasions between the years 1975 and 1984. Representing Italy, he played all the matches of the World Cup tournaments held in 1978 and 1984 giving Italy the honor to win the tournament in the year 1982.

He also man-marked the famous football player Diego Maradona in the 1982 World Cup after which it was popularly quipped that ‘Football is not for ballerinas!’ in the year 1973-73, he started his club career and played in Serie B with Varese.

After this, he moved to Juventus for whom he played the Coppa Italia match in the year 1973 against Ascoli Calcio. As a whole he played around 414 matches for Juventus which is inclusive of 283 in Serie A.

within a decade in Turin, Claudio Gentile also managed to win two major European club trophies which include the UEFA Cup of 1976-77 and the European Cup in the year 1983-84. He also won six Serie A Championships in addition to 2 Coppa Italia.
