There were 32 matches in the tournament which were allocated to different stages and rounds. The match for the bronze medal was held on 1 August at Dinamo Stadium, Moscow between the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia which ended up as a victory for the Soviet Union.

After the gold medal match, the results were announced which declared Czechoslovakia as the gold medalist, East Germany as the silver medalist, and the Soviet Union as the bronze medal recipient. Sergey Andreyev of the Soviet Union was the top goalscorer with 5 goals in the tournament.
