Shirley June Fry Irvin was born on the 30th of June, 1927 in Akron, Ohio, and is the former No.1 women tennis player hailing from America. Irvin is also among the 17 tennis players that have won each of the singles Grand Slam tournaments at least once in their entire career.

Shirley Fry Irvin also holds the record of being one of the seven individuals that have won all the Grand Slam same-sex Doubles tournaments. Irvin also won the last three Grand Slam tournament matches she played which included the 1956 US Opens, the 1957 Australian Opens, and the 1956 Wimbledon quarter-finals.

Irvin played her first Grand Slam singles game in 1942 at the age of 15. Irvin was included in the World’s top ten in the year 1946 and 1948 and from 1950 to 1956. She reached the top rank of her career being the No.1 tennis women player in 1956; she has also crowned the US top player in 1956.

The US Tennis Association included Irvin in their top ten rankings too continuously from 1944 to 1956. Irvin was inducted into the International Hall of Fame in 1970.

Irvin won 4 Grand Slam Singles titles in her career with one each in the Australian Open in 1957, The French open in 1951, The Wimbledon in 1956, and the US Open in 1956.

She also won one Mixed Doubles title at the Wimbledon in 1956 and 12 Doubles Titles including one at the Australian Open in 1957, 4 in The French Open in 1950, 1951, 1952, and 1953 along with winning 3 titles at the Wimbledon in 1951, 1952 and 1953. She also won 4 US Open titles in 1951, 1952, 1953, and 1954. Women’s tennis has come a long way and has a lot of fans.
