Keira Christina Knightley was born on 26th March, 1985 in the town of Teddington, near London, England.

Career Highlights

At just 25, the actress began her acting career as a young girl, landing her first role in 1998 when she was just 13. She was skyrocketed to international superstardom with appearances in box-office smashes like “Pirates of the Caribbean”, “the Curse of the Black Pearl” and “Bend It Like Beckham”.

Her first major film role was in “Star Wars”, “The Phantom Menace”. To date, Keira has appeared in more than twenty-one films. Her ability to go from whey-faced child to sultry vamp is just one reason Knightley has become so popular with producers.

She is at the point now where, thanks to her success, she can afford to be choosy about her roles and yet, surprisingly, is eager to work in all sorts of films. Some say that her wide-eyed honest face and wicked grin combination is the key to her success.

If so, then she is employing them well. She was the highest paid non-American film star ranked by Forbes in 2008 and the ball is still rolling for Keira Knightley.

Though she more than capably handles the look and the swagger of playing a pirate and bring tears to your eyes a love struck heroine, she is young. It remains to be seen, as time passes, if she can pull off the kinds of roles that allow her to keep her leading lady status into her thirties and beyond.

If so, she will certainly need to be reckoned among the great actresses. Keira has flirted with an Oscar several times, but has yet to win the coveted prize. She has picked up a Golden Globe award for her role as Elizabeth Bennett in the 2005 version of the Jane Austen classic, “Pride and Prejudice”.

In 2007, she received numerous nominations (Golden Globe, Peoples Choice, etc.) for her role in the film, Atonement, and picked up the Empire Award for Best Actress for her performance.
