Angela Evelyn Bassett is a renowned American comedienne, actress, director and producer. She was born on 16th August, 1958 in New York, United States of America.

She is known for a number of great roles in movies like “What’s Love Got to Do with It”, “Malcolm X” and “The Rosa Parks Story”, to name only a few.

Career Highlights
Angela Basset started her acting career in 1985, appearing in a TV movie “Doubletake”. Her first movie appearance was in 1986 movie titled “F/X”, in which she played the role of a news reporter.

In 1991, she appeared in the movie “Boyz n the Hood”, followed by another significant role in “Malcolm X” in 1992 and gained fame and critical acclaim. She continued to work on Television along with movies and appeared in different roles in TV movies including “The Cosby Show”, “A Man Called Hawk” and “Alien Nation”.

In 1992, she appeared in “The Jacksons: An American Dream”, which helped her get an award winning role in “What’s Love Got to Do with it”, released in 1993.

Two years later, she earned leading roles in “Waiting to Exhale”, “Vampire in Brooklyn” and “Strange Days” to make her presence felt in the movie circles. Angela Basset won her first Academy Award nomination and won Golden Globe Award in the best actress category for the movie titled “What’s Love Got to Do with It” in 1994.

In 1996, she won the Saturn Award in best actress category for the movie titled “Strange Days2″. In 1996, she won Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Story time, followed by Screen Actors Guild Award nomination in 2001 for the movie titled “Ruby’s Bucket of Blood”.

In addition to that, Angela Basset has won numerous other nominations as well as awards, throughout her career.
