The player holds the record of being the most capped player in the history of the Argentine football national team and has also played for his team in the Olympics held in 1996.
He also participated in two World Cups that were held in 1998 and 2002. He was given the nickname of ‘El Tractor’ after he moved on to Italy because of his ability to make a quick run from the defenders of the opposing team.
Javier Zanetti played his debut game for the team against Chile on the 16th of November, 1994. He was coached by Daniel Passarella. He has also represented Argentina in two FIFA World Cups of 1998 and 2002. E won a silver medal in Atlanta in the Summer Olympics in the year 1996.
In the 1998 FIFA World Cup, he cleanly finished off a free kick against Juan Sebastian Veron making the score at 2-2 against England. The match was won by Argentina on penalties by 4-3 however; the team lost the quarter-finals against the Netherlands.
Javier Zanetti made his 100th cap by helping his team win the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2005 against Mexico. He also managed o pick the Man of the Match award in this game.
