PFC CSKA Moscow is a Russian international league football team located in Moscow, Russia. The club was founded in 1911, playing in the top-division “Russian Premier League” for the 2011/12 season. CSKA Moscow FC plays home games at Luzhniki Stadium, having a capacity of 89,000 spectators.
CSKA Moscow football club, well known as the “Koni (Horses)”, Krasno-Sinie (Red-blue)” and “Armeytsy (Army men)”, plays home games in the Blue and Red combination jersey with Blue shorts and away games in white and grey combination jersey with white shorts.
In the early starting years, CSKA Moscow football club was associated with the Red Army and dominated with the talented army boys who completed the team as Obshestvo Lyubiteley LyzhnogoSporta (OLLS). In 1923, after playing some impressive football over the years, the club changed its name to Optvtno Pokazatel’naya Ploschadka Vseobucha (OPPV).
On Feb 23, 1928, the club again changed its name and this time it was Sportivnvi Klub Tsentral’nogo Doma Krasnov Armii (CDKA). In 1951, the name again changed to Sportivnvi Klub Tsentral’nogo Doma Sovetskov Armii (CDSA) before finally named to CSKA Moscow in 1960 till today.
CSKA Moscow football club has been regarded as the most successful clubs in Russia and participating in the European championships on regular basis.
CSKA Moscow is 3 times the winner of the Russian Premier League, 5 times Russian Cup winners, 2 times Russian Supercup, 7 times Soviet Top League winners, and 5 times Soviet Cup winners. The CSKA Moscow FC also won the UEFA Cup back in 2005 by beating Sporting Football Club 3-1 in the finals at the Estadio Jose Alvalada in Lisbon.
CSKA Moscow is currently managed by Leonid Slutsky and captained by Igor Akinfeev. The club has started the 2011-12 season with an epic style, winning their first game over Amkar football club and looking forward to keeping their winning form on the right track for the rest of the season.
