Tilakaratne Dilshan was born in Kalutara, Sri Lanka in 1976 and is a key right-handed batsman in the national Sri Lankan cricket team. He has a simple approach to batting which is extremely effective and makes him a true match-winner for the Sri Lankan tigers.
Tilakaratne made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 1999 and since then has been a part of 194 matches in which has scored 4956 at a decent average of 35.14. To his name, Tilakaratne has 8 centuries and 20 fifties with 160 being his highest-grossing innings to date.
He has occasionally kept wickets for the Sri Lankan cricket team and has even contributed regularly by taking important wickets in intense situations. Until now he has a total of 54 wickets with the best bowling figures of 4/29.
He has been in supreme form in the last few years and is known to have scored his runs at a brisk pace with strokes all around the park. Dilshan secured the award for the best performance in the year 2009 at the 2009 ICC awards for his outstanding innings against the West Indies cricket team where he went berserk and just annihilated the Caribbean attack.
