Russian player Svetlana Aleksandrovna Kuznetsova was born on the 27th of June, 1985 in Leningrad, Russian SFSR. Currently ranked at No.72 in WTA singles and No. 38 in doubles, Kuznetsova has played in 4 singles finals in the Grand Slam out of which she secured the wins in two.

She also played seven times in the finals of the doubles events winning two times as well. Kuznetsova has a more impressive doubles record as she has reached every major Grand Slam event’s finals as a doubles team at least one time if not more. She has also won the Australian Open Doubles title twice.

She first appeared at the 2000 junior tournament; however, it was in 2001 that she appeared in any major tournament namely the Madrid Open. She won her first WTA title in 2002 in Helsinki, Finland. Her first Grand Slam appearance was in the 2002 Australian Open though her first win of the Grand Slam title in the singles category came in 2004 from the US Open, marking her as the third woman hailing from Russia to have won a singles title at the Grand Slam title next to the first two players Anastasia Myskina and ace player Maria Sharapova.

The second title for Kuznetsova came from the Grand Slam event of the 2009 French Open. She was runner-up in the French Open 2006 and the US Open 2007 singles events.

As a result of these wins, she held the career’s best rank of No.2 for 24 weeks between 2007 and 2008. She also held the No.3 position in the WTA doubles and currently stands at No.38.

She has won 15 WTA Doubles titles in her career up to now winning the first 5 with Arantxa Sanchez Vicario. Kuznetsova also played a few mixed doubles matches but never succeeded beyond the quarter-finals.
