The ministry defines trekking as a walk below 6500 meters and designates three zones as open, restricted and closed to trek on. A person interested in trekking may trek anywhere in open zone and do not require any permission or mountain guide, however when it is about trekking in restricted zone, one has to pay the fee to get a trekking approval from the Ministry of Tourism.

Moreover, the trekker must get services of a licensed mountain guide, pay money for a personal accident insurance policy for the guide as well as the porters and to be present at obligatory seminar along with de-briefing at the Ministry of Tourism.
